FM1488 over Interstate 45 was closed for several hours Thursday morning after a truck loaded with rice water overturned. The truck owned by Magna-Flo exited Interstate 45 and as he came to the top of the ramp filed to reduce his speed resulting in the truck turning over. The tank leaked about 3500 gallons of rice water which is rice mixed with water that is sucked from large vats in rice processing facilities. As rice is being packaged and falls to the floor it is washed down to catch basins. This ricewater is used to mix in mulch and was enroute to a mulch company on FM 1488.
The driver of the truck was trapped for almost an hour as crews from Conroe and Needham Fire Departments cut him out. He was then transported in stable condition by MCHD.
Crews from Milstead Environmental were dispatched to the scene to clean ip the some fifty gallons of diesel that had leaked and was running down the ramp. Magna Flohad their own crews clean up the rice water and Speedy’s of Conroe uprighted the truck.
