Just before 3am an 18-wheeler heading through downtown Houston headed to Seguin crashed and lost his load. According to the driver, he had a blowout and lost control. Houston Police say the truck was loaded with 78,000 pounds of scrap metal and heading to a steel mill in Seguin. When the load flipped thousands of pounds were also dumped over the guardrail onto the HOV lane below. In addition close to 200 gallons of fuel and oil leaked onto the highway forcing the closure. Houston Fire Department HAZMAT responded to the scene to stop the flow of the fuel. HAZMAT International of Conroe then took over cleaning the mess up as Dan Wheeler Heavy Duty Wrecker’s removed the truck and trailer. THe scrap had to be loaded into roll off containers. The driver was not injured.
