Deputies seize $238,000 in Drug Money

Deputies with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Drug Interdiction Unit confiscated $238,980 last Thursday.

The deputies stopped an out-of-state vehicle on Hwy 59 for a basic traffic violation. After the driver’s behavior rose suspicion, the deputies asked to search the vehicle and were given permission.

The driver was identified as Armin Martinez, whose vehicle contained 16 hidden bundles of dollar bills wrapped with black electrical tape inside the front bumper.

Martinez was taken into custody and transported to Liberty County Jail without incident. He was charged with Money Laundering Over $2,000 and has a bond set at $1 million by Judge Stephen Hebert.
