Just after 2:30am Caney Creek Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire on Long Valley Ct. in the Summerset Subdivision off SH 242. The first engine to arrive did so within minutes as it was only a mile away. While enroute they learned at least 8 people were trapped. A second alarm was immediately pulled bringing in New Caney, Porter and Needham Fire Departments along with Magnolia Fires Rehab Truck. As they arrived on the scene to a brick home with heavy smoke showing and fire at the rear of the home they immediately went into rescue mode. A female resident with heavy smoke inhalation was first out, they then found a 1-year-old child and immediately started CPR. That child died enroute to Texas Children’s Woodlands. Firefighters then found a 7-year old child and once again CPR was started but it was too late. The adult male in the home escaped but severely cut his arm trying to rescue his children. As other firefighters arriving began to fight the blaze the original crew continued searching for an elderly female and 2 more children, they found the 93-year-old female deceased. A short time later a neighbor came to firefighters and told them she was the one who called and had taken the two children to her home and they were watching television. Medics checked the 5-year old and 8-year old and determined they had suffered smoke inhalation and they were transported to the hospital. The Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office is on the scene investigating.
PLEASE KEEP THIS FAMILY IN YOUR PRAYERS. IN ADDITION, THE MEDICS AND FIREFIGHTERS WHO WORKED TRYING TO SAVE THE CHILDREN.
EDITORS NOTE: I ARRIVED RIGHT BEHIND THE FIRST CANEY CREEK FIRE TRUCK, THOSE GUYS BAILED OFF THE TRUCK AND NEVER THOUGHT TWICE ABOUT GOING INTO THAT HOUSE, SMOKE WAS COMING OUT OF EVERY CRACK AND CREVICE ALL THE WAY AROUND, IT WAS DOWN TO THE FLOOR IN THE ENTRY WAY. THEN AFTER BRINGING THE FIRST CHILD OUT WENT BACK IN TO THE INFERNO ALONG WITH ANOTHER CREW FROM NEEDHAM FIRE TO KEEP SEARCHING. THESE GUYS IN MY EYES ARE THE BEST. SEVERAL UNDER A YEAR EXPERIENCE AND YET NEVER SLOWED THEM DOWN. I THINK WHAT REALLY GOT TO EVERYONE OUT THERE WAS THE FACT THAT THE TWO LITTLE BOYS ESCAPED AND DIDN’T REALIZE TILL LATER THEY WERE AT A NEIGHBORS BEING CARED FOR, UNTIL THEY DISCOVERED THIS, FIREFIGHTERS WERE STILL SEARCHING INSIDE FOR THEM. JUST SEEING THOSE TWO LITTLE BOYS AND THEIR FATHER BEING ABLE TO HUG THEM COMFORTED MANY ON THE SCENE. IN ADDITION THE MANY MEDICS FROM MONTGOMERY COUNTY HOSPITAL DISTRICT WHO GAVE ALL THEY HAD WORKING ON THESE VICTIMS.
