Last Friday at approximately 5:30 p.m, deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit conducted a traffic stop in the area of US Highway 59 and Community Drive. A vehicle was stopped for a defective brake light. During the traffic stop and investigation, the driver refused consent to search his vehicle. A narcotics canine was utilized and gave a positive alert on the suspect vehicle. As a result of the investigation, 17 kilograms of methamphetamine was recovered at the traffic stop. The wholesale street value of the seized narcotics is estimated at $375,000.
Both the driver and passenger in the vehicle were arrested and charged with Aggravated Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Deliver. Both subjects are being held at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Jail on a bond of $2 million each. There was an 18 month old child in the vehicle, during the time of the traffic stop, which was released to Child Protective Services.
