I-45 FATAL CRASH UPDATE

Monday evening Conroe Police Traffic Officers were notified of a fatal crash at 15700 S. IH-45 in the southbound main lanes involving two motor vehicles.  Investigation and witness accounts revealed that a 2004 Buick was southbound stopped and disabled, in the HOV lane.  A 2013 BMW X5 SUV  was following another vehicle in the HOV lane when the lead vehicle changed lanes upon seeing the disabled vehicle.  The BMW with a single occupant  was following too close and unable to avoid striking the Buick, striking it in the rear causing it to burst into flames.  The driver of  the Buick was soon engulfed in fire and bystanders were unable to free the entrapped driver, who did not survive. The driver of the Buick was identified as Benny James Boston II, age 22.

The driver of the BMW, identified as Cecil Franklin James, 43, of Montgomery, was transported to Conroe Regional and admitted with minor injuries.  Montgomery County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace  Spikes was notified and ordered an autopsy.  Eickenhorst Funeral Directors responded to the scene and transported the deceased to the forensic center as directed. Both vehicles were towed to the impound lot for further investigation.

Tonight the victim Benny Boston’s sister set up a GOFUNDME  to help with funeral expenses.

She said in the post:

My 22 year old baby brother Benny Boston Jr was killed on December 11, 2017, in a fiery car accident on I45 S and FM 1488.   Benny had a blow out.His vehicle was struck by a black SUV Benny’s car immediately burst into flames and sent him crashing into the concrete barrier.  Several bystanders tried to get him out of his vehicle, but were unsuccessful due to the damage done to his car.  He was unconscious at the time and unable to get out by himself.  We need help burying my baby brother.  Please help in anyway you can to help ease my mom’s worries during this horrific time.  Thank you for all of your kind words and thoughts during this very very hard time.  God bless.

This tragedy is a very teachable moment. It has been said by others in the past and I will repeat it now; If you have a blowout or other failure and the car still moves drive it to the shoulder out of the traffic lanes. This is not a criticism of Mr. Boston because his car may not have been driveable and many drivers don’t realize you can drive a car on a flat tire or are worried about damaging the wheel beyond repair. If that happens, so what? It is better to destroy the wheel or another part of the car getting it out of traffic than being involved in a crash because another driver is unable to avoid hitting your disabled vehicle. Prayers for Benny and his family.
