WILLIS MARINE KILLED IN AFGHANISTAN

Cpl. Joseph D. Logan, 22, of Willis has been identified as one of the six Marines lost in Afghanistan Thursday evening.

According to the Department of Defense, six Marines from the Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 363 were killed during combat operations. The squadron, known as the Lucky Red Lions is based in Kanoehe Bay, Hawaii.

Marine Lt. Col. Mark Revor posted a statement on the squadrons official Facebook page.

“With deep sorrow I have to confirm the news stories that you probably have already heard. Last night we lost six members of the squadron during a combat operations. Official notification has been made to all the next of kin. I will be able to release the names of the crewmembers in 24 hours. I ask that if you already know, through personal contacts, the names of those crewmembers, please respect the 24 hours of privacy afforded to those families.”It is reported that there was no enemy fire in the area when the Sikorsky CH-53 went down.

The others lost in the crash are:

                   Capt. Daniel B. Bartle, 27, of Ferndale, Wash.

                    Capt. Nathan R. McHone, 29, of Crystal Lake, Ill.

                    MSgt. Travis W. Riddick, 40, of Centerville, Iowa.

                   Cpl. Jesse W. Stites, 23, of North Beach, Md.

                    Cpl. Kevin J. Reinhard, 25, of Colonia, N.J.
