FM 1488 REOPENS AFTER FATAL CRASH

FM 1488 has reopened at 7:30 p.m. after a fatal crash at 5:15 p.m.

Fire and EMS were dispatched to a reported head-on major accident in the 1700 block of FM 1488 near Peoples Road. When fire and crews arrived the 20-year-old female driver of a 2009 Ford Focus was deceased along with a small companion dog. She has been identified as Taylor Harris of Conroe.

The other vehicle involved in the crash was a 2008 Nissan Armada SUV driven by Melanie Sangil, 32, of Conroe. Sangil and her 3-year-old daughter were transported in stable condition with minor injuries to Conroe Regional Hospital.

According to Sgt. Robert Engel of the Conroe Police Department, Harris was westbound on FM 1488 when for an unknown reason she crossed the center turn lane and struck Sangil who was eastbound head-on. The impact was so hard that the Nissans front license plate imprinted into the Ford Focus front bumper.

Judge Edie Connelly pronounced Harris dead and ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport her to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy.

FM 1488 was closed eastbound at Carriage Hills and the westbound traffic was limited to the shoulder lane.
