DOCTORS LICENSE SUSPENDED
The state has temporarily suspended the license of a Houston-area doctor allegedly caught speeding down US 59 with a carload of drugs.
Dr. Felix Nabor Sabates was arrested last week by a Precinct 4 deputy and charged with DWI and drug possession.
Deputies said Sabates was seen driving northbound on 59 at speeds in excess of 100 mph.
When a the deputy attempted to stop him, investigators said Sabates led the officer on a short chase before pulling over.
A search of Dr. Sabates’ car yielded approximately 80 morphine tablets, 60 Adderall tablets, 80 hydrocodone tablets and 60 unmarked capsules containing a white powder that tested positive for cocaine, according to the Texas Medical Board.
A Medical Board panel determined Sabates "continuation in the practice of medicine presents a continuing threat to public health and safety."
Dr. Sabates has a history of substance abuse and mental illness, according to the medical board. In 1994, the Board entered a five year order based on findings that Dr. Sabates had attempted suicide in 1992 and had abused alcohol and cocaine.
Sabates has a pain management clinic in Baytown and an ophthalmology practice in Kingwood.
