Just after 1 p.m. Thursday Caney Creek Fire Department was dispatched to a reported major accident in the intersection of FM 1485 and Waukegan Road. When they arrived on the scene they found the intersection to be closed with debris scattered over two-hundred feet and diesel fuel covering the roadway. MCHD responded to the scene and transported Tony Cooper, 33 of Conroe to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the 18-wheeler was identified as 33-year-old Chad Heinsohn.
According to DPS the 18-wheeler owned by Beaver Pipeline Construction was north bound on FM 1485. As he approached the intersection, Cooper, driving a 1992 work truck and pulling a trailer with a mini excavator was approaching the intersection from Waukegan Road. Witnesses said Cooper ran the stop sign but the road conditions were wet at the time and it is believed he approached the intersection to quickly and was unable to stop.
Cooper went into the intersection and was broadsided by the 18-wheeler. The trailer with the excavator came unattached from the work truck. Coopers truck came to rest almost two-hundred feet away.
The 18-wheeler fuel tank was leaking diesel onto the roadway which continued into the ditches. Milstead Environmental was dispatched to the scene for the hazardous material cleanup
Texas Department of Transportation arrived on the scene with a sand truck to absorb the diesel in the roadway.
The road reopened at 4 pm. .
