New Waverly firefighters were dispatched to the third major accident in the past few days where victims were reportedly trapped in their vehicles. Saturday night, two people died in accident just south of New Waverly when their truck hit a concrete pole anchor and burst into flames.
Around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, a pick-up truck travelling south on I-45 slammed into the rear-end of a large, commercial truck. The crash trapped and killed the driver of the pick-up.
On Tuesday, just before 6 p.m., New Waverly firefighters were called in to a scene where a driver had lost control of her SUV on HWY 75, just north of New Waverly. The vehicle left the roadway, traveled deep into the woods, landed on its side, and trapped the driver. Firefighters used their rescue tools to extract the woman in mere minutes and she was transported by Walker County EMS in stable condition.
