The accident happened around 4:45am on the Beltway 8 North at Aldine Westfield.
A witness saw the wrong-way driver on the Beltway near JFK and called police. But by the time officers arrived, that sedan had crashed head-on into a car carrying a man and a woman. The impact also shoved a third car into the retaining wall.
Firefighters on the scene said the man and the woman traveling the right way died in the crash. The wrong-way driver, who police say is a young woman in her early 20s, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The victim’s haven’t been identified.
Police say the wrong-way driver was released from the hospital and was taken downtown. She will likely be charged with intoxication manslaughter.
Several hours before that incident a Shenandoah Police Officer was northbound on the Interstate 45 feeder when he noticed a single white light ahead of him . Thinking it was a defective tail light he continued up the feeder but the light got brighter. Changing lanes he observed a scooter going southbound on the northbound feeder. Stopping the driver, the driver explained he had a flat tire and did not think he could make it all the way to 242 and back down to Research and then north again to a business he was trying to get to.
