BOAT OPERATOR ARRESTED AFTER BOAT SINKS

This last couple of days on Lake Conroe have been busy ones for the Precinct 1 Constable’s Office Marine Division. Yesterday evening, at approximately 7:05 PM, the Marine Division received a call concerning a vessel that was sinking. The vessel was located at the mouth of Hostetler creek near Calvary road. Witnesses described hearing an impact but didn’t see anything near the vessel. There were two occupants on board; a husband and wife, both from Houston. Montgomery County Precinct 1 Marine Division units were assisted by ESD 1 Fireboat 94, and Conroe Fireboat 6 in helping both occupants out of the water and take them to shore.
During the investigation into what caused this vessel to sink, Precinct 1 Deputies observed the driver of the boat (the male subject) displaying signs of intoxication. The male was sequentially arrested for Boating While Intoxicated (BWI) and taken to the Montgomery County Jail without incident. What caused this vessel to start taking on water is still under investigation but investigators believe that alcohol was a contributing factor to the sinking of this vessel. The vessel was removed from the lake by a towboat service. Arrested was Ronald Leonard Rumpza, of 15300 Cutten Road in Houston. This was his 2nd DWI Offense.
