Brush clearing turns deadly

A Conroe man died in a freak accident on Monday just before noon while using a tractor to clear some land in the 11100 block of FM 1484 south of Salty’s, a popular area bar.

According to Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Trey Spikes, 54-year-old Raburn Sanders was working on a heavily overgrown area and apparently was unable to see a “washout” area, causing the tractor to get stuck. As Sanders tried to free the equipment it turned over and wound up on top of him.

North Montgomery County Fire Department and Cut and Shoot Fire Departments along with MCHD and Precinct 1 Constables Office responded. Firefighters freed Sanders however he was pronounced dead on the scene. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to investigate. The death was determined to be an accident.

Judge Spikes conducted an inquest and did not order an autopsy, saying he felt confident the weight of the tractor caused Sanders’ death.
