Burned Human Remains Discovered

Last Thursday, around 5:30 p.m., the Liberty County Sheriff’s dispatcher received a call from a resident who lives near FM 1409 who reported finding the burned remains of a human body just off Private Road 442 which is also known as Harrison Road in South Liberty County. According to Sheriff’s Department Lead Investigator Sgt. Paul Lasco the remains, which is thought to be the body of a Hispanic male in his 20’s, had been wrapped in a tarp and the tarp and body set on fire.

Over the past few days, Sgt. Lasco and Sgt. Chris Ungles have worked long hours diligently attempting to establish an identity of the victim as well as the circumstances surrounding the man’s death. There was no identification on the remains and according to Sgt. Lasco an autopsy was ordered to determine the cause of death and, perhaps, an identity. Missing person cases from other law enforcement agencies are being checked to determine if any other jurisdiction might have a missing person report that fits the description of this victim.

Anyone having information as to the identity of this victim and/or individuals involved in his death are ask to call the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at (936) 336-4500 and provide that information to Sgt. Lasco or Sgt. Ungles.

In addition, anyone having information as to the person or persons responsible for the death of this victim is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-7867 and provide that information. Crime Stoppers can pay up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the individual(s) responsible for this act and the caller will remain anonymous.
