"These boots… I often find them in the middle of the floor.. As I huff and put them where they belong shaking soot or dirt off as I toss them in the closet.. These boots often trip and knock me over as I head inside not knowing they were stranded on the floor… Today I find them here… In the place they always are. I will never see what these boots see… They carry a man on a journey to save a woman and child from a burning building, load a 4 yr old in medic unit after a deadly crash and on days like yesterday… These boots they hold a hero who embraces widows as they find out there own hero will not make it home… These boots carry the weight of a man who is heartbroken.. One that remains stoic during catastrophic situations and salutes a fallen brother as they pass their station for the final time. No I will never go where they go but for today they are home… They brought him home and today they will sit right where they are… I will cherish seeing these boots one more time…"
