Over the past few months, Houston SPCA has mad several trips to the 500 block of County Road 331 in Cleveland to check on tip calls about several heads of cattle severely malnourished. Calls then started coming into Liberty County Precinct 6 Constable John Joslin’s Office. Joslin and deputies went to the property this week and after walking the property down found 16 head of cattle and three calves severely malnourished and no food available. The cattle had actually broken the fence to a neighboring pasture in an attempt to get food. Joslin contacted the Houston SPCA and also got a warrant for the seizure of the animals. At 9qam Thursday the SPCA arrived with 3 stock trailers. As they arrived they noted several head missing. A short time later the owner arrived on the scene with 6 head of cattle in a stock trailer. He claimed to have been taking them to a vet. The SPCA backed a trailer of theirs to his trailer and loaded the 6 head. As they were one cow who had been nursing a calf went down. SPCA officials separated that one from the others and hopes were it would be able to get back up once they got it to their facility. A dead calf was also removed from the property along with an additional 10 head of cattle and 3 calves.
