CHASE/STAND-OFF ENDS IN WILLIS

At approximately 4:15 this morning Harris County had a call in reference to a family disturbance where shots had been fired. As they approached the location near Rankin and IH-45 the suspect fled the scene at a high rate of speed. Deputies initiated a pursuit which soon crossed the Montgomery County line. At that point Montgomery County joined the pursuit at speeds of up to 120mph. Several attempts were made to spike the vehicle which was unsuccessful at first. In the area of FM 3083 and ih-45, several cars that came I contact with the spikes were on the shoulder with flat tires.

Sergeant Chris Rogers with Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department attempted to deploy spikes in the Willis area. As the suspect vehicle came through he swerved toward
Rogers at which point the pull rope is used to retract the spikes after they are deployed wrapped around his leg fracturing his ankle.
The suspect continued on a flat until he came under Long Street at which point he fled his vehicle and ran into the woods.
A command post was set up and IH-45 northbound was completely closed. Montgomery’s canine unit responded to the scene to assist.
During this time the suspect had been on the phone with his girlfriend and family members indicating he may be considering suicide. Texas Ranger Captain Kevin Pullen was able to reach the suspect on the phone and talk him out of the woods to surrender.
No shots were fired however the suspect’s vehicle was being searched for a weapon.
Harris County started to take possession of the suspect until the Montgomery County District Attorney announced charges of their own. The suspect Jamaine Banks age 33, was transported to the Montgomery county jail.
He is charged with Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Felony Evading with a Motor Vehicle and Possession of a Firearm (Convicted Felon). Additionally, Harris County will be adding charges of their own.
Banks has a lengthy criminal history. On September 21, 2009, he was sentenced to 10 years probation for DWI. On September 3, 2009, he was convicted of Assaulting a family member, criminal mischief, terroristic threat,
