At 7:15 Sunday night, Montgomery County 911 dispatchers received a call for a major accident on Fire Tower Road at McAlister in East Montgomery County. Reports were a Ford pickup had slammed into a tree and a male and an 8-year-old child were entrapped. MCHD responded along with East Montgomery County Fire Department and Caney Creek Fire Department. They were able to free the male driver of the truck who had minor injuries. They also worked to free the child who was trapped on the passenger side of the vehicle. During the rescue operation, it was determined he was deceased. A very distraught Hispanic female was also on the scene and it was believed she had been in the vehicle. It was later determined the female was the boy’s mother and she had not been in the vehicle but responded to the scene. The male driver was reported to be the boy’s father. Due to a language barrier very little was known about the child. He was reported to be 8-years-old but Troopers later learned from his mother that he was actually 15-year-old. The male driver was transported to Conroe Regional Hospital-HCA for a mandatory blood draw. The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office Vehicular Crimes Unit is assisting in the investigation. Justice of the Peace Precinct 4 Montogmery County responded to the scene to perform the inquest. He ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport the victim to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy. Judge Dunn did confirm the information he currently had that the boy was 15-years-of age. According to DPS, the truck was southbound on Firetower Road. It entered a curve at McAlister and lost control. The vehicle crossed the northbound lane, went through a fence, and slammed into a large tree. The investigation is continuing as to charges being filed. Firetower Road reopened at 11:30 pm.
