CLARENCE RICE OF MONTGOMERY PASSES

Clarence Harrison Rice, 95, died at his home in Montgomery, Texas on Saturday June 21, 2014. He was born on November 9, 1918 to Leonard and Nannie Rice in Ashland, Kentucky, and grew up in Kenova, West Virginia, where he graduated from high school. He later attended Georgetown University, served in the United States Navy, and had a distinguished and rewarding career as an engineering designer. His resume included work on nuclear power plants, refineries, chemical processing plants and other similar industrial facilities, including an overseas project in Saudi Arabia in 1948, and a nuclear project for General Atomic in California. He celebrated 40 years of marriage with his wife Joan, and together they raised two children, Michael and Sally. His greatest pride was his three grandchildren, Joey Cefaratti, Tony Cefaratti, and Jessica Fletcher, and the numerous great grandchildren that blessed their families.

His passion, besides his family, was golf with his lifelong friend, Reed Eichelberger. Clarence attributed his many days on the golf course as the reason for his longevity, and he enjoyed the frequent lunches, dinners and gatherings that he would share with Reed’s family.

He is survived by his son, Michael Rice and his wife Lynda, of Huntington Beach, California; his son-in-law, John Cefaratti of Beaumont Texas; his three grandchildren and their children; his “favorite niece”, Frances Conley of St. Petersburg, Florida; his lifelong friend and caretaker, Reed Eichelberger and wife Laura of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, along with their family; and numerous friends he had made since moving to Montgomery, seven years ago.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, and his daughter, Sally Cefaratti. His life after their death was diminished and he longed for the day he could be reunited with them.

There will be a short graveside service at 10:30am on Monday, June 30, 2014 in Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston Texas.
