CLEVELAND JEWELRY STORE BURGLARY

Approximately 2 a.m. the Cleveland Jewelers located on East Houston Street in Cleveland was burglarized. A business owner working late across the street from the store saw some suspicious activity and called police. As police were arriving a van pulled away at a high rate of speed.

Cleveland Police chased the vehicle through Cleveland and onto Interstate 69 heading south toward Houston. With speeds reaching 100 mph in the heavy fog they were able to keep sight of the van.

Montgomery County was notified and units with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, DPS and Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constables set up at FM 1314 and attempted to spike the van. The driver was able to avoid them and continued south exiting at North Park Drive. As they approached the North Park intersection and turned westbound a Cleveland patrol unit was able to cut them off.

Four black males were taken into custody and several bags containing up to 100 Citizen and Seiko watches were recovered.

The suspects were returned to Cleveland for questioning. When they finish Montgomery County also has some questions for them regarding some recent burglaries in Montgomery County.

Bobby Coats stood close to the door of his business watching as Cleveland officers fingerprinted the glass cases and watches scattered across the floor. Several cases were shattered, The burglars tried to pry the front doors but unable to free the two locks they crushed the front window and entered.
