Just before noon Friday Arnold Hogland, 54, of 18409 Cooper in Conroe was caught shoplifting in the Walmart on Loop 336 in Conroe. As loss prevention officers approached him, he became violent and assaulted one of them. He then got into his vehicle and sped away. Within minutes Conroe Police spotted him and attempted to stop him.
Hogland refused to stop turning the simple shoplifting charge into a theft of property and a felony evading charge.
He was able to avoid the spikes set up for him on the I-45 feeder and turned east on Crighton Road. With Conroe Police and Precinct 2 deputy constables now attempting to stop him he continued at speeds of close to seventy miles per hour. At FM 1314 he turned south to Old Houston Road and then north to SH 242.
At this point Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Precinct 4 deputies also assisted as Hogland continued east on SH 242. It was then they were able to get a license number and discovered the vehicle was registered on Cooper Road off FM 1485 and Pickering. Although it wasn’t determined he was the driver they continued at speeds of close to sixty miles per hour south on FM 1485 to Pickering.
Hogland continued until he arrived n his street and drove to the dead end. After a few tense minutes he gave up and was taken into custody.
He is charged with evading arrest, a felony in District Court 9 and Theft of property $50 to $500 in CCL1.
