Assistant Chief John Zitzmann began his law enforcement career with the Houston Police Department in 1981 as a graduate of cadet training – Class 98. During his 34 year career with the Houston Police Department, Asst. Chief Zitzmann served in a variety of different positions and received numerous awards and commendations from the department, the Chief of Police and a variety of other organizations. Asst. Chief Zitzmann actively sought and obtained promotions within the Houston Police Department by completing the department’s written examination and assessment process for promotion. At the time of his retirement with the department, Chief Zitzmann was a Lieutenant assigned to the Homicide Division where he served honorably for seven years. His tenure with the department also involved service in several other capacities to include Patrol Sergeant, Gang Task Force Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant – Shift Command and Field Training Coordinator. At the time of retirement from the Houston Police Department, Chief Zitzmann had completed the written examinations and assessment process and was eligible for promotion to the rank of Captain.
While serving the citizens of Houston, Asst. Chief Zitzmann continued to seek educational development and obtained his Master Peace Officer certification through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement in addition to receiving a
Master of Arts degree in Sociology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Houston.
Asst. Chief Zitzmann has been a resident of Harris County Precinct 4 for more than 35 years. Moving into the area in 1982, he and his wife raised two children. Both of his 2 sons, Jason and Jonathan are also police officers within the Precinct 4 organization. Jason is a district patrol deputy, and Jonathan is a Patrol Captain, both work out of the Cypresswood annex.
The Harris County Constable’s Department, Precinct 4 is proud to have Asst. Chief Zitzmann serving the department. He is a valued addition to the many other experienced and proven law enforcement leaders presently serving the citizens of Harris County Precinct 4. Asst. Chief Zitzmann will assume command of all patrol operations out of our Humble office, which entails leading 108 certified patrol deputies and supervisors.
