CONROE — The Men in Black, a.k.a. Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, were honored as Department of the Year at the 2011 Montgomery County Christmas Luncheon at the Lone Star Convention Center on Tuesday. Precinct 4 Constable Kenneth “Rowdy” Hayden was on hand to accept the award, accompanied by his wife Jennifer and several members of his office staff and deputies.
Constable Hayden’s agency received two letters of nomination for the award. One of the letters was submitted by Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace James Metts and his staff, who work closely with the Constable’s Office. The letter said Hayden and his crew have “set a new standard, and changed the way many people think of a constable’s office.”
It went on to list issues tackled by the current administration, including the illegal drug problem that has plagued East County for so long, illegal dumping, sex offender compliance checks and uninsured drivers, not to mention the enormous backlog of warrants Hayden inherited.
The letter called the department a “cohesive group, determined to provide the best possible service to the community where many are lifelong residents,” and cited the accomplishments, attitude and effectiveness of the Precinct 4 Constable’s Office as reasons they deserved the award.
Apparently, the voting committee agreed.
Constable Hayden said receiving the award was a tremendous honor.
“It means a lot for my department to receive this honor from the county, especially considering the other departments nominated, who are also very deserving of recognition,” Hayden said.
“I truly appreciate the people I work with, and I’m sure I don’t tell them often enough,” he said. “We’re blessed to have good people who are dedicated to law enforcement and working together to protect the citizens of East Montgomery County.”
Other county departments nominated for the honor included the District Attorney’s Office, Sheriff’s Office, Precinct 2 Constable’s Office, Precinct 5 Constable’s Office and the County Library System.
