CPD Catches Robbery Suspect

Jesus Carlos Mosqueda ll

On Saturday, November 21, 2015 the Cleveland Police Department received a call in regard to a robbery. The reportee said a blue 4 door passenger car pulled up to a male who was walking to McDonalds (441 W. Southline) for food. The vehicle stopped next to the male and the driver exited the vehicle. The driver then demanded 20.00 from the citizen who was walking. The subject took the money, struck the citizen in the left eye and fled the scene. A license plate was obtained and provided to Officers who were searching the area for the suspect vehicle.

Officer Simon Prince was checking Highway 105 west when he observed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle turning onto the 105 bypass (traveling east). Officer Prince followed the vehicle and confirmed the license plate number as Sergeant Edwards was traveling west on the bypass in an attempt to intercept the vehicle. Officer Prince activated his emergency equipment of his patrol unit (lights and siren), but the vehicle failed to stop and continued traveling on the bypass.

Upon seeing Sergeant Edwards patrol unit, the vehicle pulled to the right of the roadway. Officer Prince and Sergeant Edwards exited their patrol units and ordered the driver to exit the vehicle. The vehicle also had 3 other male occupants who were ordered to keep their hands in the air.

The male driver exited the vehicle yelling to the Officers that he did not do anything while he was attempting to talk on his cell phone. Sergeant Edwards approached the driver to detain him as Officer Prince watched over the occupants of the vehicle. The driver refused to cooperate and began resisting Sergeant Edwards. The driver would not put down his cell phone and began physically resisting Sergeant Edwards. A physical struggle continued to take place on the ground until Sergeant Edwards was able to secure the driver in handcuffs.

Additional units arrived and all occupants of the vehicle were detained until the situation could be fully investigated.

Upon further investigation of the incident, it was found the driver acted alone and was responsible for the robbery. The driver was identified as Jesus Carlos Mosqueda ll, 18, of Cleveland, Texas.

Mosqueda was charged with Robbery (2nd Degree Felony) and Resisting Arrest (Class A Misdemeanor).
