CRASH CLOSES FM 3083 FOR OVER TWO HOURS

Just after 10:30 p.m. several team ropers just left Caney Creek Cowboy Church from an event and were heading home to New Waverly. Pulling three horses behind a Dodge 3500 pickup. As they approached Crater Hill Road they were met by an intoxicated driver who was southbound on FM 3083 in an Eclipse. The intoxicated driver who was seen by other drivers had been all over the road. It was near this intersection that the Eclipse crossed the center line and was struck broadside by the Dodge truck. The truck pushed the Eclipse up against the guardrail entrapping the driver.

Caney Creek Fire Department was dispatched to the scene and was able to quickly extricate the driver who suffered a head and leg injury. He was transported in critical condition.

The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries. His passengers were uninjured. The 3 horses were spooked but appeared uninjured.

The road was closed for almost two hours as DPS investigated the crash. TXDOT responded to the scene due to the guardrail damage.
