CRASH IN GRANGERLAND COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE

At 4:15pm Scott Mcdaniel, 20, of Conroe and his female passenger Emily McDonald 18, were westbound on FM 2090 and were waiting on traffic at  the intersection of FM 3083.

McDaniel  pulled out turning left to go south on FM 3083 and was struck in the driver side door by a 2007 Dodge Ram pickup pulling a trailer and driven by Gerry Shuttlesworth, age 37, trapping McDaniel and McDonald.

The Dodge pickkup continued north on FM3083 striking 17 year old Marquis Sykes who was southbound on FM3083 and in the left turn lane to turn onto FM 2090 in  his 1999 Ford F-150 black pickup.

DPS is unsure whether Sykes fell out of the door or jumped out seeing the crash scene and forgetting to put his truck in park.

His truck continued southbound striking a sign next to Mr. Sticker, which is a Texas Motor Vehicle Inspection business owned by Ike Cegielski  . It continued across the parking lot heading straight for Grangerland Grocery Store’s front door.

Tammy Dyer who works at Grangerland Grocery had just walked out the front door of the store ands sprinted for the truck. Grabbing the tailgate in an attempt to stop the slow rolling truck down.

Kim Coleman who also works at Grangerland Grocery was in the office and heard the crash. Running out to the front and seeing the truck rolling toward customers vehicles and the entrance of the store she too tried to stop the rolling truck.

Others in the shopping center parking lot also responded trying to stop the truck and someone was finally able to get through the damaged door and get the truck into park a very short distance before striking the building.

Caney Creek and New Caney firefighters spent almost 20 minutes cutting McDaniel out of his 2002 yellow Chevrolet Cavalier. He was transported to Hermann Hospital in the Woodlands in critical condition with a head injury. His passenger and Sykes were also transported in stable condition. Shuttlesworth was uninjured.
