11:40 a.m.-DPS was dispatched along with MCSO, Magnolia Fire Department and MCHD to a reported major accident with ejection on FM 2978 just south of Carraway Drive. When the fire department arrived they found a Ford F-150 pickup on its side with heavy left side damage. In addition they found the body of the victim approximately one hundred feet away in the middle of the roadway.
MCHD arrived on the scene and determined the driver to be deceased at 9:19 a.m.
According to Trooper Lyons with DPS the vehicle was northbound when he struck the guard rail on the right side of the roadway. He then crossed into the southbound lanes striking that guardrail. When that guardrail was struck the left front fender was torn from the truck and the truck began to roll on it’s side. Skidding almost two-hundred feet it remained on it’s left side before coming to rest on the northbound shoulder.
Justice of the Peace Mike Masden responded to the scene and ordered Metcalf Funeral Directors to transport the victim to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy.
The road reopened at 11:30a.m.
The victim has been identified by DPS as 19-year-old James Turner of Spring.
