dash cam video released by coNroe police of saturday’s officer shooting

As Sgt. James Keleman rests at home following surgery, Conroe Police today released the video of the incident.

Saturday afternoon Sgt. James Keleman responded to the Discount Bakery in the #00 block of North Loop 336.  As he pulls in the driveway he sees the man  with the gun. Several times he tells him to put the gun down. “Put the gun down and we will talk,” Kelleman told the gunman.

The gunman moves around the red car several times taking a bead on the officer, then he fires, you see the puff of smoke and then the officer yells out in pain.

At that point several other officers arrive on the scene, the gunman still armed between the cars, once again attempts to raise the weapon and is shot himself by other officers.

Tonight many fellow officers met with Sgt. Keleman at the Conroe Police Department. In surgery Monday, Keleman lost his right eye. He now is wearing a patch. When he entered the station tonight he was greeted by at least 30 officers all wearing eye patches.

He was able to sit down for the first time with them and view the video which in its entirety is over one hour. However, once they start treating the officer his body mike for his dash cam shuts down leaving almost an hour of silent video.

God Bless our American Heroes – The Police, Firemen and Military who put their lives on the line every moment of every workday. They protect us and our families from danger and keep peace in our lives.

It is these brave men & women who are to be lauded and held in the highest esteem.

Self-centered athletes, intoxicated rockstars, lecherous movie stars and political whores are not the stuff of heroes…it is our Peacemakers, those who rush into burning buildings and those brave souls who put their lives on the line to exterminate our enemies that deserve our praise…and heartfelt gratitude.

God Bless them all and keep them safe and out of harm’s ways.

Our prayers for healing in mind, body and spirit for you Officer Keleman, and for your family. May God grant you healing in the sweet name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

Glad to see this officer survived this incident with an obvious madman. Not to second guess the decision of the officer, but I think he should have started shooting the suspect the first time he saw the gun pointed in his direction. The madman is the one that decided who was going to die that day. The officer should have granted him his wish before waiting for the gunman to fire first. I believe that society and the court system are causing our officers to be scared to use deadly force unless fired upon. Better to be judged by 12 then carried by 6. Be safe officers and shoot first!!!!

I totally agree. I was very impressed with the way Sgt. Keleman handled things – before and after getting shot. Praying for them all.

Good job Sgt!! I’m so sorry you lost an eye for this man who obviously had a death wish!! I hope you don’t have to go behind a desk because of this and are able to compensate for the loss of depth perception. I hope this video gives some people an idea of what you officers deal with. Everyone should respect and obey any law enforcement officer and TEACH your children to do the same. They are here to protect and serve. They would lay down their life protecting us and they DON’T GET PAID ENOUGH!!!
