DEAD BODY FOUND IN BURNED CAR

 

Statement from Liberty County Sheriff’s Office:

On Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at around 5:45pm the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office was notified about a burned out car on Private Road 106 in east Liberty County in the City of Devers, Texas. The caller stated there appeared to be a body still sitting in the driver’s seat and the human remains were mostly destroyed by the intense fire.

According to lead Investigator Sgt. Billy Knox, the red 2010 Chevrolet was last known to be on Greens Road in Harris County on Sunday, June 13th. at about 6:pm. The State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Department of Public Safety Auto Task Force are assisting in the investigation. Preliminary autopsy results indicate the human remains to be a male with an age range between 17 and 50 years old. Investigators are currently working on collecting evidence from the vehicle while attempting to make a positive identification of the remains and awaiting DNA results.

Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Judge Ronnie Davis responded to the scene and conducted the inquest.

Investigators are asking anyone that may have information on the positive identity of this person or the circumstances of the fire to call the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers. The identity of callers to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and a cash reward can be given.
