DISTRICT ATTORNEY AWARDS SEVERAL FOR WORK IN FIGHTING DWI DRIVERS

Sixty-eight law enforcement officers attended a DWI school last week put on by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office. It was also the Third Annual Dwi Awards for law enforcement officers who have shown dedication to the DWI enforcement in Montgomery County.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was awarded Agency of the Year.

The Conroe Police Department and their CORT Team was given the municipality of the year award for their investigations of fatal and DWI involved crashes.

Trooper Peterson with the Texas Department of Public Safety was awarded Trooper of the Year. Peterson by himself made 207 DWI arrests in 2012.

Trooper Reece was also awarded for his work on the DPS enforcement.

Trooper Larsen who works out of the New Caney Office was also awarded for his efforts in DWI enforcement.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department Deputies Prince who they call a one man DWI enforcement unit and  Deputy Bartoskewitz both were awarded for their efforts in enforcing DWI and taking a large number of intoxicated drivers off the road.

DPS Sgt. Barnhill was awarded Investigator of the Year. Barnhill and his team spend an average of five hours on every fatal scene investigating the crash. After that it continues into several elements of further investigation. They have spend untold hours on crashes such as last years crash when an impaired driver killed her child in a crash. She was sentenced to twenty-years.

They were also responsible for investigating the head on crashes on Interstate 45 along with almost every fatal crash in Montgomery County.

Also this year the Milstead family was honored for their help to both Montgomery County and law enforcement. Milstead Wrecker Service based in South Montgomery County but operating throughout the county. If an impaired driver calls them, for $50 Milstead will tow their vehicle and take the driver home up to twenty miles away. They have leaders in getting businesses to promote designated  drivers. Milstead has also supported the Bars and Cars Task Force. They are one of the only companies in Montgomery County that after a fatality crash store the vehicle in a secured impound for the District Attorney’s Office to preserve evidence. They were awarded the Community Service Award.

DPS Trooper Peterson is awarded Trooper of the Year from the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office for his effort to curb the number of DWI’s in Montgomery County. For 2012 Trooper Peterson removed 207 Intoxicated Drivers from the roads of Montgomery County.

DPS Sgt. Terry Barnhill was awarded Investigator of the Year by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office. Barnhill leads a team of investigators who recently were able to gather enough evidence over a month long investigation of the fatal crash on April 2, 2012 to get a Murder conviction on Ashley Heil.
