About 10:30 a.m. Monday Liberty County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a man who stated his wife had called him from their home on CR 6478 in the Woodland Hills Subdivision of Dayton. He stated his wife had told him she attempted to rescue her Weiner dog from a stray dog the family had taken in approximately two weeks ago. When she called her husband at work this morning she said the black long hair dog which is believed to be a mixed breed lab with a white chest attacked her dog. As she attempted the rescue of her dog the stray attacked.
As the dispatcher kept the husband on the phone units and an ambulance were dispatched to the scene.
Deputy McQueen and EMs arrived at the same time and were met by the vicious dog at the front gate covered in blood. The deputy discharged his weapon and the dog ran away. As they approached the house the dog once again charged them. The deputy fired again and believes he hit it at least twice. The dog ran to the back of the property and after crawling under the fence vanished into the woods.
Once inside the house they found a 63-year-old female deceased in a pool of blood.
Deputies remain in the area looking for the dog which is considered dangerous. Residents in the area are requested to keep pets and small children inside until the dog is located.
