DPS MOTORCYCLE PURSUIT ENDS IN CRASH AND ARREST

Just after 2 pm Thursday a DPS Trooper attempted to stop a black Suzuki motorcycle on I-69 northbound near Roman Forest. The driver sped up to over 100 mph and exited SH 242. Patton Village assisted as the bike sped west on Sh 242 passing vehicles in an area marked as construction and at 45 miles per hour. As he approached FM 1485 he turned back toward I-69 and again accelerated to close to 100 miles-per-hour. Just past Gene Campbell, as police units approached a motorist going northbound pulled to the right and stopped. However, the female driver behind her did not and slammed into the rear of that vehicle. Several units stopped to check on her. She only had minor injuries. However, the remaining units continued the pursuit. The driver turned right on Vick Drive and then tried cutting back to FM 1485 through a parking lot but was cut off by Patton Village. He laid the bike down in the grass and was quickly arrested. DPS Troopers attempted to determine if the bike was stolen as the plate had expired years ago. What they found was all the serial numbers ground off. The bike was impounded where auto theft detectives can determine if it was stolen. The driver was identified as Jonathan Frank Kinard, 34, of 31430 Edgewater in Magnolia. He however has been known by law enforcement to have been living in the Splendora area. He was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on charges of evading arrest, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of a controlled substance. Kinard had several previous arrests in Montgomery County. On October 27, 2020, he was arrested by Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for possession of a controlled substance. he was out on a $5000 bond for that charge. Then on January 24, 2021, deputies with Precinct 4 Constables attempted to stop him at the Porter Walmart in a stolen vehicle. He fled down SH 99 to the Spring area. After a lengthy search by DPS, MCSO, and Precinct 4 Constables after he jumped out and fled on foot, he was located and arrested. He was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest, and possession of a controlled substance. He was again released on a total of $25,000 in bonds on February 8, 2021.
