Tuesday evening just after 5:30p.m. Caney Creek Fire Department was dispatched to an illegal burn at FM 3083 and Leafy Lane. One of the firefighters just arrived on the scene. Traffic had slowed and a truck driving east bound made a left turn onto Leafy Lane. Behind that truck was a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department Supervisor in a marked patrol vehicle. As he slowed for the truck turning a 2008 Toyota was behind him. The driver of the Toyota, Billy Dukes, 58 looked over at the fire and did not see the Sheriff’s Patrol unit slow down. That’s when he slammed into the back of it. The deputy or Dukes were uninjured.
Dukes was cited for failure to control speed.
The patrol unit suffered heavy under carriage damage.
