EARLY MORNING CRASH FATAL IN CONROE

Just before 3 a,m  James, a wrecker driver with Amigo Motors and his wife Elizabeth were eastbound on Crighton Road. Just past Kidd Road a raccoon ran across the road causing him not to just slow down a bit more but almost be more alert.  Several hundred yards further his wife first spotted a sixty-foot pine tree across the road. As they called Conroe Police the saw something further down the road that appeared to be a vehicle. Walking don to it they discovered that vehicle was a Dodge Ram pickup, that was damaged in a way he had never seen.

There was no driver with the vehicle and they began to search the area. Hearing a “grunting sound” they found the driver almost seventy-five feet beyond the vehicle.  That person was later identified as William Hargrave, 31, of Conroe.

As medics and fire began to arrive and work on Hargrave, other crews combed the woods for additional victims using lights and heat seeking thermal imagers.  PHI Air Medical was dispatched due to his severe head injury.

River Plantation was called to assist Conroe fire who was already on the scene with setting up a landing zone at FM 1314 and Crighton,

Hargrave was flown to Hermann Hospital in Houston in critical condition where he passed away Sunday morning.

According to Conroe Police, Hargrave was traveling at a high rate of speed when his truck left the roadway. The vehicle ran along the ditch line before hitting and breaking the pine, After striking the tree the truck continued along the ditch until it reached a gully. At that point as it crossed the gully it began to flip until it came to rest on it’s roof.

It is believed at the point Hargrave, who was not wearing a seatbelt was ejected. a shoe was found where the truck started to flip, a sock was found almost twenty-feet into the  tree with a shoe below it. This gave them to reason to he was actually launched from the vehicle and may have flown quite a distance.

The road was reopened about 6 a.m. when Speedy’s Wrecker was able to clear the truck from the roadway,
