Windshields all across Texas will soon look a little bit different. Gone will be the days of two stickers – one for inspection and one for registration.
Starting March first, you’ll be given one sticker that serves as proof of both. It’s part of the new “Two Steps, One Sticker” program.
DPS troopers say it should help cut down on inspection sticker fraud, and since they’re printing one sticker instead of two, it’s estimated to save the state about two million dollars. You though, won’t be saving any money.
DPS Trooper Jimmy Morgan says, “The $14.50 that you’re paying now, you’re going to be paying $7 at that inspection. You think you’re getting a great deals right? But the $7.50 part of that that was being collected at the registration office. So you’ll be paying the same amount. It’s just different locations where you’ll be making that payment at.”
If your registration and inspection are up at the same time, the process will be quick and easy. Things get a little more complicated if the dates don’t match.
The state has set up a website to help those of you in that situation –www.twostepsonesticker.com.
