elderly female dies at car wash

Just before 2:30 p.m. a man and his wife and their elderly mother decided to visit the Subs Car Wash located at 4203 West Davis (SH 105) just outside Loop 336 in Conroe. Their vehicle had been washed and they were standing in the front parking lot waiting for employees to finish detailing it. The trio were  standing behind their vehicle.

Moments later the husband shoved his wife who was pregnant to one side and jumped as a black 4-wheel drive pickup truck raced toward them. The elderly mother identified as Juana Gonzalez, 72,  who was visiting from Mexico was not able to get out of the path of the truck and was run over.

Employees and customers rushed to the woman as she lay in the driveway.

Montgomery County Hospital District units and Conroe Firefighters arrived on the scene but were unable to save the female.

According to Conroe Police, CORT was called to Suds Car Wash, located at 4203 W. Davis, in reference to a fatality crash involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian. Scene investigation indicated that the pickup truck  was left with a car wash employee to have it washed.  The attendant drove the car to the rear entrance of the automated wash bay.  The employee positioned the truck in the track system and then mistakenly shifted the transmission to ‘drive’ instead of ‘neutral’.  The employee exited the truck and closed the door. The diesel truck immediately began moving forward, much faster than normally carried by the automated system.  The truck went through the entire wash and exited the front.  The elderly female was about 50 feet from the entrance, not facing the wash exit, and was struck from behind by the truck.  The truck ran over the victim and then into a small tree at the edge of the parking lot, stopping it’s forward progress. The victim was declared dead at the scene.

The scene was photographed and marked for any subsequent investigation.  On premise video was recovered and submitted into evidence.  Judge Spikes ordered an autopsy and Eickenhorst Funeral Home transported the deceased to the forensic center.
