Elected Officials, Churches Say ‘Thank you’

A special “service of thanks” was held at Rosewood Funeral Chapel in Porter last Sunday, honoring East Montgomery’s first responders. Speakers included United States Congressman Kevin Brady; Montgomery County Pct. 4 Commissioner Ed Rinehart; Montgomery County Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace James Metts; Jess Fields, President of Rosewood Funeral Home; and Gary Southard, pastor of LifeQuest Community Church in Porter.

The early morning service was attended by firefighters, emergency medical personnel and law enforcement and preceded by “meet and greet” time with coffee and donuts. Jess Fields welcomed everyone, which was followed by an opening prayer led by his son, Jay Fields, a senior at Kingwood Park High School. The Leland Fleming and College Park Church of Christ Singers delivered a song of thanks before Judge Metts spoke, followed by Commissioner Rinehart and Congressman Brady. Gerald Beckham of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church then led a prayer of thanks.

Andy Dill, President of the Chamber of Commerce of East Montgomery County, then led recognition of each group of first responders present, as one person from each group stepped forward by one to receive a certificate and a folded flag, presented by Judge Metts, Commissioner Rinehart and Congressman Brady.

Pastor Gary Southard of LifeQuest Church in Porter, who organized the event, delivered a message of thanks before closing with a prayer.

Montgomery County Police Reporter would also like to thank all those who interrupt and risk their lives for others on a daily basis.
