At 9:18 Sunday morning East Montgomery County Fire Department along with law enforcement and EMS responded to a reported truck vs tree crash in the 13800 block of Tram Road. Units arrived on the scene to find a white Ford pickup had run off the road and struck a tree. The driver, identified as Dale Martin, 49, was deceased in the vehicle. Martin had left his home about an hour prior to the incident to run errands. When he didn’t return family members tried to reach him on the phone but could not. His daughter went out looking and discovered his vehicle off the road. Dale Martin who has lived in East Montgomery close to 25-years was a dear friend to many. He was a lifelong educator and was employed by Splendora ISD both as a teacher and administrator for almost 20-years. Many said he was the only one who kept the computers up to 100%. In 2012 Martin was elected to the Montgomery County Improvement District Board and reelected in 2016. Is is the Vise Chairman of the board. HE was always there to help the community. Just yesterday a benefit was held for Roman Forest Officer Greg Sammon who was injured when a speeding vehicle struck him on his motorcycle during an oversize load escort. Hundreds showed up for the event. Martin offered his services as the auctioneer for the event.
