EMCID Communications Director to Educate Community, Spread Word About East Montgomery County

PRESS RELEASE

EMCID Communications Director to Educate Community,
Spread Word About East Montgomery County
New Caney, TX (October 27, 2014) Two months into the job and Kelley Mattlage continues to
work through a checklist of projects to enhance public relations and promotion of the
East Montgomery County Improvement District. Mattlage was hired in August as EMCID’s
Director of Communications. As part of her duties, she’ll help attract businesses and development
to the area and keep residents informed of various projects EMCID is funding to better the
community.
“Kelley established herself in this community when she went to work for New Caney ISD in 2009,
building a positive public relations campaign from the ground up,” said Frank McCrady, President
and CEO. “The Board of Directors and I are confident she’ll do a fantastic job here as well.”
“It’s so exciting to see the continued growth in the area and now I’ll have a hand in spreading the
good news,” said Mattlage. “With a background in television news, I’m nosy by nature. I think
most people are and want to know what’s happening around them.” To establish better
communication with the community, the first item on Mattlage’s agenda included launching on
Monday, October 27 a new website loaded with fresh content. “We’ve totally revamped the site.
You’ll be able to get news on developments in East Montgomery County, apply for community
development grants or college scholarships, find the agendas for upcoming Board of Directors
meetings, rent the facility for a special event and see pictures from EMCID’s many events,” she
said. The web address remains www.emctx.com.
Mattlage is currently developing new marketing materials as well as updating others, revamping
the District’s social networking sites and creating a quarterly community newsletter.
Mattlage has spent the past 17 years in the public spotlight, most of it as a television news anchor
in Waco, Texas for KCEN-TV. Known as Kelley Barr, the journalist earned an Emmy Award, two
honors from the Texas Medical Association and various other recognitions. She left TV in 2009
and joined New Caney ISD as its first Director of Communications and Community Relations,
establishing herself to the district, community and Houston news media as a positive, fair and
honest spokesperson. She picked up two awards from the Texas School Public Relations
Association for her brochures regarding the 2012 bond election. Mattlage also served as Director
of Communications for St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston, the largest Episcopal Church
in the nation, before heading back for East Montgomery County.
