Just after 9 a.m. Friday morning a DPS Trooper on patrol spotted an emu next to the roadway at Willis Waukegan and FM 1484. Animal Control was notified as was Montgomery County Precinct 4 Livestock Officer.
With Deputy Squires with Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office keeping traffic slowed in the area and attempting to keep[ the bird off the roadway, Montgomery County Animal Control attempted to get a hood on it and a line around it.
For over an hour the emu paced and ran along the ditch line eluding capture. Several attempts including Facebook messages were used in an attempt to locate the owners.
The who had a visible injury fled into heavy underbrush and into the woods.
He was not captured and is still on the loose.
