Sunday night a Montgomery County Precinct 5 Deputy Constable was on patrol in the Highland Estates Subdivision off FM 1488 in Magnolia. The deputy stopped a Chevrolet Suburban on traffic. Inside the vehicle was Christopher James Schmidt, 27, of Conroe and a female. Schmidt failed to give his name and then gave another name. The deputy requested a unit with a portable AFIS (fingerprint reader) to respond to the scene. As he was waiting he Schmidt and cuffed him behind his back. The female was dealing with a medical issue, so the deputy escorted her back to the vehicle. As he did Schmidt fled on foot into the woods. Additional units were called in from DPS, Precinct 5 and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. A perimeter was set up and a DPS helicopter started a air search as deputies searched the ground. Just after 2am the search was called off. Just after 4:30am Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office received a call that a male fitting the description was at the Chevron station at Dobbin Huffsmith and Hardin Store. Units responded to that scene. As one of the constables began to light and field up next to the Chevron, Schmidt stood up, raised his hands and gave up. He told deputies he had run to the woods and was able to get his cuffs in front of him. Once he did he said he had jumped several fences through resident’s yards. Schmidt was transported to the Montgomery County Jail on multiple charges which include:

Theft over $2500 but less than $30,000

Failure to appear for a child support hearing

Possession of marijuana

Evading arrest

Failure to ID fugitive /give false information
