ESCAPEE IN CUSTODY

Adam Daniel Williams tried to outrun a Montgomery County Deputy again moments ago but was not successful. He has been taken into custody. Last Friday night a report of two suspicious males came in to dispatchers. The location given was behind the East Montgomery County Community Center/YMCA at the entrance to Patton Village where there has been some vandalism. Units responded. A Splendora Officer made contact with the pair. He identified Williams and his son. He then discovered an open misdemeanor warrant on Williams and arrested him. After he was cuffed, Williams attempted to bolt and run. As he did officers tackled him to the ground. Williams then claimed injury and EMS was dispatched. EMS determined that he needed to go to the hospital to be checked out. As they were loading him in the ambulance on the stretcher Williams managed to flee again. He was still cuffed and lost his shoes. This time officers chased him across the road and through an RV Park into the wooded area behind. A perimeter was set up. DPS and HPD helicopters were not available so the warden at Texas Department of Criminal Justice Polunsky Unit was contacted for the use of his tracking dogs. The Warden himself and other TDCJ Officers responded to the scene. For several hours they took a beating of tree limbs as they tracked Williams through the heavily wooded area on horseback following the tracking dogs. The dogs came to a dead end and the trail vanished. On Tuesday a lead came in and Montgomery County Sheriff’s SWAT Team acted on it attempting to locate Williams. As they approached the area Tuesday night, Williams who was outside is no longer cuffed, spotted them and fled into the woods close to 7pm. Units fanned out through the area and once again TDC dogs responded along with a Harris County Sheriff’s Office helicopter. The search continued into the night in the area of Loop 494 south of Community Drive. Close to midnight the search was called off. Then just before 11 am Wednesday morning a Montgomery County patrol deputy spotted him and took him into custody at Loop 494 and Owens. This has not been the first time Williams gave law enforcement the slip. On September 1, 2006 he was arrested in Montgomery County for felon in possession of a firearm and was taken to Conroe Regional Hospital for a medical need. On September 26,2006, while in custody at Conroe Regional Hospital Williams was able to slip his leg restraints, get down to the emergency room and slip out the door. He was spotted by an off-duty deputy working an extra job at the hospital. When he was finally arrested he was sentenced to 10-years in TDCJ. Williams has a long history with law enforcement. In 1994 was sentenced in Harris County to one-year for theft of a firearm. This after he fled from officers on foot but was later arrested. In 1995 was charged with auto-theft, and in 1996 with credit card abuse. He was sentenced in Harris County on those charges also. Then in 1999 he was charged with escape while in custody from a theft charge in Liberty County. He was given 5 years TDC by Liberty County on the Escape charge. He has also been charged with several theft and assault charges over the years. He will now remain in the Montgomery County Jail on charges of evading and theft by check in Harris County with possible additional charges.
