In the early morning hours of January 2, 2019, North Montgomery County Fire Department and Caney Creek Fire Department responded to a house fire on Old 105 in Cut and Shoot. They arrived to find heavy fire conditions. The owner had just awoken and heard his girlfriend’s 12-year-old daughter crying out that a couch in the living room was on fire. He attempted to extinguish the fire but discovered more fire in the wall behind it. He then yelled for the 4 children and his girlfriend to evacuate the home. Once outside they discovered one daughter had panicked and was closed in her bedroom. He ran back through the living room and was able to get the girl to safety. Additionally, 2 dogs perished in the blaze. Two others succumbed to smoke inhalation. The family made it out barefoot and with their night clothes. Everything else was lost. The community has come together for this family. They have found a place to live and some appliances but everything was lost. A GO FUND ME has been set up to assist the family. Besides the resident Sam, his girlfriend Mandi, the children girls ages 12, 14 and 15 and boy 8 have lost everything. The Montgomery County Frie Marshal determined the cause of the fire to be electrical.
