FATAL ACCIDENT ON INTERSTATE 45

Just after 5:30am Montgomery County 911 received several calls stating a man had fallen out of a dump truck on Interstate 45 southbound between Woodlands Parkway and Woodlands Fly-over.  Additional calls came in about a man walking across the freeway at Lake Woodlands.

Units arriving on the scene found an elderly male deceased.

DPS Troopers investigating the crash said 74-year-old Bobby Lee Poe, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease was pushing an Oak Ridge trash can across the freeway when he was struck.

He made it across all the northbound lanes, crossed the median wall and was crossing the southbound lanes. A vehicle in the left lane was able to swerve from hitting him. However a female driver in a Nissan Rogue in the second lane was not able to avoid him and struck him.

Interstate 45 southbound was closed to one shoulder lane for several hours causing traffic to backup to FM 1488.

The mans family was not aware he had left their home just a few hundred yards away.
