Darryl Day was walking from his garage to his house in the 16500 block of Rabon Chapel late this afternoon when he heard a squeal of tires then a loud crash. In front of his house and down about one-hundred yards was a Dodge 1500 pickup that had struck a tree. As he was runbning up to it another woman stopped who Day asked to call 911. The truck appeared to be on fire with the smoke at first. “The cab was full of smoke. I tried to open the drivers door but couldn’t,” Day said. The window broke and he was able to feel a faint pulse. He said the young man in the back seat was partially under the front seat. The other rear male passenger was facing the rear of the truck. He told Day he was 17 years-old.
MCHD arrived on the scene along with Lake Conroe Fire Department. One of the passengers was flown to Hermann Hospital in Houston in critical condition. Another male passenger was going to be Life Flighted but due to distance for another helicopter a decision was made to take him by ground to Hermann in Houston. He too was critical and as they were enroute downtown they diverted to Hermann Woodlands. Yet another male was taken to Conroe Regional in stable condition. The 16-year-old female driver did not survive and was pronounced on the scene.
Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace Matt Masden ordered the driver taken by Metcalf Funeral Directors to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy.
According to Trooper Nickols with DPS the vehicle was westbound on Rabon Chapel at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway to the right. The driver then over corrected and struck a tree head-on on the south side of the roadway.
All victims appeared to be teens, one had no ID the other names will be released after DPS notifies families.
Day said vehicles speed up and down Rabon Chapel day and night. Not long ago he said a DPS Trooper parked in his ditch and each time a speeder would come up he would turn on his lights and pull behind the vehicle. This went on for seven separate speeders in one hour.
