Moderate rainfall causing slick road conditions in East Montgomery County Thursday evening is believed to the cause of a two-vehicle fatal collision in New Caney.
Just after 6 p.m., a Nissan passenger car was eastbound on FM 1485 about 1 mile east of Loop 494, when a westbound white Mazda convertible went out of control for unknown reasons, sliding sideways directly into the path of the Nissan. The Nissan struck the side of the Mazda killing the 18-year-old passenger upon impact.
Montgomery County Hospital District medics and the New Caney Fire Department responded to the scene. What was first thought to be an entrapment was not, and they were easily able to extricate the 19-year-old male driver of the Mazda, who medics transported by ground ambulance to Hermann Hospital in the Woodlands in critical condition, with head injuries and internal injuries. The driver of the Nissan was transported by ground ambulance in stable condition.
Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace James Metts conducted an inquest and had Eickenhorst Funeral Directors transport the deceased to the Montgomery County Forensic Services Department in Conroe for autopsy.
The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the crash as of press time.
DPS has not released the names as of yet pending notification of next of kin.
