At 5:38 pm A Chevrolet Cavalier was northbound on Old Houston Road when the driver ran off the edge of the road in the curve. The driver then overcorrected and came across Old Houston Road entering the southbound lane sideways. A Nissan Murano driven by a female who was 7-months pregnant broadsided the Cavalier trapping the drivers of both vehicles. Caney Creek Fire Department responded and removed the drivers. The male driver of the Cavalier was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The female driver was transported to the hospital in stable condition. Her and the baby are reported to be ok. At 9pm Old Houston Road remains closed as HAZMAT Teams attempt to gather all the gasoline and oil floating on the flooded ditches. Old Houston Road which is 2-lane and heavily traveled was one of the roads approved to be widened using the road bond funds. A resident who called 911 was walking to her mailbox when the crash occurred. Another resident calls the road a death trap. Where curve signs aren’t in place, the road drops off in many places and there is virtually no visible yellow stripe down the center separating the lanes. He said another issue is that nobody drives the speed limit on the roadway.
