At 10:45 p.m. Sunday North Montgomery County Fire Department and MCHD were dispatched to a reported major accident on Longstreet Road west of Willis. When they arrived on the scene they found a 1997 Dodge Dakota had struck a tree. The driver was entrapped in the vehicle and required fire crews to cut the doors to remove him. He was in critical condition and PHI Air Medical was dispatched to the scene. After an extensive period of time to stabilize him he was flown to Hermann Hospital in Houston in critical condition.

A female passenger, Sheryl Gross, 48 of Willis was determined to have been deceased on the scene.

Another passenger, Ronald Murray, 36, of Conroe was out of the vehicle walking when crews arrived. He was transported to Conroe Regional Hospital in stable condition.

The driver, Robert Kendall, is expected to recover. It has not yet been determined where he resides as he only had a Georgia drivers license in his possession.

Troopers did find alcohol on the scene but it has not yet been determined if alcohol was involved in the crash until blood tests are returned,

According to DPS the truck was northbound on Longstreet Road just past Shadow Bay at a high rate of speed when the driver failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle struck several trees snapping one off and uprooting another.

Sheryl Gross was transported to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy by Eickenhorst Funeral Directors.
