Fatal motorcycle crash in EMC

EAST MONTGOMERY COUNTY- A New Caney man was killed Sunday afternoon when a pickup truck turned in front of his motorcycle around 2 p.m., on Loop 494 near Arrow Lane in Porter.

Troy Lynch, 54, of New Caney was pronounced dead at 2:48 p.m.

According to a report by DPS Trooper Eric Lopez, Lynch was southbound on Loop 494 on his 2002 Harley Davidson when 55-year-old John Chelette of Porter, who was northbound on Loop 494 in his 1997 Dodge pickup failed to yield the right-of-way and turned left in front of Lynch, causing a collision.

Lynch’s leg was amputated in the crash. Medics rushed to the scene and called for a medical helicopter, but before it arrived, Lynch went into cardiac arrest and the helicopter was canceled. MCHD medics transported Lynch to Kingwood Medical center where he was pronounced dead.

The speed limit on that stretch of road is 50 miles per hour and conditions were clear and dry. According to the report, Lynch was not wearing a helmet.

Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace James Metts conducted an inquest and had the body transported to the Southeast Texas Forensic Center in Conroe for autopsy.

Lopez’ report did not state whether Chelette was cited.

Lynch’s death is the second motorcycle fatality on Loop 494 in just over a month. On March 16, Douglas Allen, Jr. was struck from the rear and thrown into the path of an oncoming vehicle as he waited for a break in traffic to turn into the parking lot of the Porter Sports Bar and Grill. Allen was pronounced dead on the scene.
